Chief Executive Groundwork – Voluntary sector organisation
The organisation promotes/delivers urban and rural regeneration projects in areas of social and economic deprivation and aims to support sustainable, safer and healthier communities across Northern Ireland.
The Assignment:
We were contacted by the outgoing CEO whose departure was imminent, however the Board where not time rich and they required us to move quickly and needed us to manage the entire process on their behalf.
The Process:
Initially we reviewed the draft Job Description and proposed amendments that more accurately reflected the challenges and opportunities of the post. We worked with the Chair in identifying the type of individual required/to be targeted in line with the needs of the organisation, balanced with the budgeted salary. We developed an information pack that educated candidates about the organisation and communicated the opportunities within the role. We then designed a schedule of advertisement, promotion and proactive search that delivered within the required timescales. This allowed us to introduce a wide range of candidates to the process from a variety of sectors, not just the Third Sector, which enabled the Board to assess the different skillsets available in the market. We attracted a high calibre field that where screened, interviewed by us and short listed down to interviews with the Board. We supported the Board in developing questions and managed the interview arrangements. Finally, we supported the chosen individual in negotiating a reduced notice period, so they could begin their role earlier than the anticipated 3-month contractual notice period.
The Outcome:
A successful placement was made within the tight timescales required and the Board was delighted with the robust and thorough process.
